Susanne Harris Carnell
Before co-founding Lorenger & Carnell PLC, Susan was a partner in the Labor & Employment Group of Hogan & Hartson, where she had practiced since May 2001. Prior to joining Hogan & Hartson, Susan represented companies in employment and other civil litigation with Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C. Susan also was appointed to be a Special Assistant Corporation Counsel prosecuting child abuse and neglect cases on behalf of the District of Columbia.
Susan is a seasoned litigator. She has more than fifteen trials under her belt, and she enjoys every opportunity to appear in court on behalf of her clients. That said, Susan works diligently to avoid litigation for her clients through preventative training and counseling to help prevent claims, or, when legal action becomes unavoidable, to resolve claims favorably, through thorough investigation and discovery, persuasive briefing and diplomatic negotiation.
Susan graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was a member of the Virginia Law Review and the Order of the Coif. Between law school and entering private practice, Susan clerked for then-Chief Judge J. Frederick Motz, United States District Court for the District of Maryland in Baltimore.
Susan, her husband Bill and their two children reside in Alexandria, Virginia.

Michael J. Lorenger
Mike joined the Hogan & Hartson Labor & Employment Group in 1997 and was asked to join the partnership in 2003. In the course of his nearly ten years with the group, Mike represented employers in court and before federal and state agencies in more than twenty-five states, before at least four U.S. federal courts of appeal, and in several state supreme courts.
Although Mike is known for his aggressive defense of his clients in litigation, his clients also appreciate his practical advice, his candid case assessment, and his uncompromising focus on exit strategies when litigation threatens to overwhelm management’s ability to concentrate on the company’s bottom line. For these reasons, Mike is also regularly retained to help his clients step gingerly through the minefields that surround the most vexing personnel decisions so that company executives can return to running their business rather than spending time inside a courtroom.
Mike graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Iowa in 1991 where he majored in journalism. In 1995, he received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he served on the editorial and managing boards of the Virginia Law Review.
Mike, his wife Carrie and their three children reside in Alexandria, Virginia.
